The combination of ombrotrophic marshland, nutrient-poor marshland and nutrient-rich marshland is particularly valuable. The heritage values at \u00d8yast\u00f8l have long been threatened by the overgrowth of juniper, deciduous forest and eagle fern, as well as the planting of spruce trees. There is also some wear and tear on the tourist trail that runs through the area. A waymarked hiking trail to Melands-Gr\u00f8nahei tourist cabin runs through the nature reserve. The protected area consists of marshland that is located north of Kleivaland Farm in Hjelmeland Municipality. The nature reserve was established in 1986 and has an area of 0.33 km\u00b2. \u00d8yast\u00f8lsmyra is a marsh that used to be cut in order to make hay. It lies 420 meters above sea level.
